Texas Smooth Groove Holiday Concert

Lewisville, TX December 22, 2017:  Join us Friday, December 22nd at 7pm at the MCL Grand Theater in Lewisville, TX for this one night only show. Texas Smooth Groove Holiday Concert will bring together the artistry of saxophonist, Tom Braxton, members of Fingerprints, guitarist Mark Harper and internationally known vocalist, Toni Redd. All the artist came to prominence during the height of the Smooth Jazz Era of the 1990s. Since then they have released over 20 recordings and toured nearly every continent. They now have come together to present a show that highlights music from their individual projects and some special Holiday favorites. There is also a VIP after-party following the concert, with the artists, next door in the MCL Black Box.

The MCL Grand Theater is a 300 seat venue located at 100 N. Charles Street in the historic old town section of Lewisville. Parking is free.

About the Artists and their Audiences

Texas Smooth Groove was formed in 2011 by Mark Harper and Frederick Nichelson. The original goal was to galvanize a collective of like-minded players who strive to promote Smooth Jazz and Soul music from Texas; both live and recorded.

According to smoothjazz.com and Jazziz magazine, today’s smooth jazz listeners tend to fit the following:

Gender: 55% Male / 45% Female

Concert Goers: Age 35 – 60

Education: 70% college graduates

Mostly Professionals & Homeowners

Diversity Ethnicity: 58% non-white (African American, Asian, Hispanic, Other)


Tom Braxton

Tom Braxton’s melodic sound has been thrilling audiences of all ages from coast to coast and abroad for nearly two decades.  This versatile instrumentalist and gifted composer is a seasoned performer who has the amazing ability to "grab the heart-strings" of the audience within the first few minutes of his show.  That's why Jazz Review calls Braxton "one of smooth jazz's most prolific saxophonists...with all the required tools to become a major force."  This native Texan has recorded nine albums including The Other Side (2016 Sanae/Braxton collaboration), The Next Chapter (2014), Endless Highway (2009), and Imagine This (2007) on the Pacific Coast Jazz label and Bounce (2005) on the Rendezvous label.  His latest release, The Other Side, is a collaborative project with label mate Robert Sanae.  Braxton's music can be heard on radio and television airwaves nationwide, and his albums have hit numerous jazz charts including Billboard, RadioWave, SmoothJazz.com, Groove Jazz Music, Capital Jazz Radio, and Amazon. 


Frederick Nichelson

Frederick Nichelson is a Dallas area musician/producer with over 25 years of professional experience. Nichelson hails from the rich music tradition of Memphis, TN. He is co-founder and leader of the jazz/soul group Fingerprints and its parent company Nichelson Entertainment. Nichelson has also served as manager for other artists including Shelley Carrol, Memphis Soul Live, and Kyle Turner. His South Memphis Music record label has over 20 releases and its artists perform over 500 shows per year.


Mark Harper

 Mark Harper is a seasoned guitarist / performer and multi-platinum award winner. He has performed with a “who’s who” in contemporary music. That list includes Tower of Power, Wayman Tisdale, Kirk Whalum and Yolanda Adams. His debut CD The Mark Harper Project (2013) gained critical acclaim from both artists and critics alike. It features vocalist D-Mac and the late bassist, Wayman Tisdale.


Toni Redd

 Songstress, Toni Redd, is an internationally known award winning artist, powerhouse performer and recording artist. She is the winner of Black Women in Jazz for Best Jazz Artist and Music Video for Close to Me from Catching the Redd Eye (2014), Black Women in Jazz Award for Woman of Jazz & Soul (2015), and a 2015 Georgia Music Award Nominee; the only female in the jazz category. Though regarded as a smooth R&B singer, Redd is an intense vocalist whose style is infused with R&B, contemporary smooth jazz, and classical soul; these elements combined create her unique and distinct powerful ambience. Toni is a routinely featured artist at various jazz festivals include the Maui Music Festival and the Atlanta Jazz Festival, just to name a few. Ms. Redd is an all-around performer and actress whose voice can be heard on National Commercial Jingles, and acting credits include the independent film Losing Grace, the Tyler Perry film, A Good Man is Hard to Find and touring with the stage play A Good Man is Hard to Find. Additionally, Toni’s live performances mesmerizes and captivates her audiences with high intensity and erupting energy.
